HIST 101 – Histology
Cell structure and their organisation associated with its functional properties in human body are discussed. Illustration of specific cell and tissue components by various laboratory techniques and different type of microscopes are examined. Cells with its nucleus, cytoplasm and cell membrane identified by their light and electron microscopic features. Cytoplasmic compartments of cell; including organelles (rough endoplasmic reticulum, smooth endoplasmic reticulum, ribosome, Golgi apparatus, mitochondria, peroxisomes, centrioles, microtubules, microfilaments) and inclusion with cytoplasmic matrix are discussed in detail. Nucleus and cell cycle in human and its importance in maintainence of the homeostasis is discussed. Tissue concepts and its classification with detailed histological structures of epithelial tissue, connective tissue, muscle tissue, cartilage and bone tissue, nerve tissue and blood (their cells and specialized extracellular matrix elements) are examined.

NURS 104 – Pathways to Nursing Excellence
This course focuses on the means professional nurses employ to improve health care practices and patient outcomes. In the course, knowledge of leadership principles and behaviors are introduced, tools to become informed consumers of research and other evidence for best practices in nursing are identified, and strategies for inter-professional collaboration are explored. Definitions and principles of leadership are identified and clinical examples are examined to help students appreciate the complexity of leader-follower relationships, develop critical thinking and communication skills, and develop attributes of the professional nurse. Evidence-based practice strategies are introduced as important tools for improving patient care. Students explore philosophical underpinnings of knowledge and the relationship of theory to research and practice in a global community. Students examine a variety of research methods and participate in journal clubs where they critique published nursing studies and work on development of best nursing practices. The course stresses the importance of research rigor. Inter-professional collaboration is introduced to help nursing students understand their own professional identity while gaining an understanding of other health care professionals’ roles within the health care team.

SOC 301 – Sociology of Health
After a brief examination of radical social changes (industrialization- urbanization-democratization) of nineteenth-century Europe, and speculations of social philosophers and social reformers, relating to emerge and development of science of sociology, the course; concentrates on principles, goals, methods and specialized fields of this new discipline. The second part of course consist of subjects culture, society, individual and social interaction.
